Escape Room is a Netflix original film about six seemingly randomly selected strangers who are challenged to take on a “live experience puzzle” for a chance to win $10,000 each.
Drawing on inspiration from hits such as the Hunger Games, Saw and Panic Room, the unwitting competitors soon realise that they have bitten off more than they can chew and that they are all connected by a commonality.
With several different style ‘rooms’ to complete in order to win their freedom (which soon supersedes the money) each of them are forced to make horrible choices and compromises to survive. Every challenge takes on a new meaning with the ultimate reveal at the end
Much milder blood and guts than the aforementioned films which could be argued either way as to whether it enhances or devalues the story/
A cast of relative unknowns as the budget was quite clearly spent on special effects and sets! Decent entertainment to fill a Covid inflicted evening.
